FOX Renews ‘American Grit’ For Season Two

John Cena’s American Grit reality series is coming back for a second go-around on FOX. The network announced today at the TCA summer press tour that they have renewed the series for a second season. The series debuted in April and saw Cena hosting the show, which put sixteen contestants into four teams (each led by a military veteran) through obstacles modeled after military training exercises designed to test their limits with $1 million on the line.

The show’s renewal is somewhat of a surprise; while it didn’t bomb with critics, ratings were soft with a 0.6 average rating in the 18 – 49 demographic. However, the show stayed consistant and even made up ground from the usual post-premiere drops to the point that the season finale nearly matched the series premiere, which is an encouraging sign in a TV landscape where ratings typically dwindle as the season progresses.

The show is currently casting. There’s no word on when the series will film, although Cena is likely to take time off for that period, much the same that he did late last summer.
