News & Notes: Alberto Status, WWE Survey, Davey Richards, Taboo Tuesday

Status of Alberto El Patron’s GFW Suspension

As previously reported, GFW suspended Alberto El Patron as part of their on-going internal investigation into the domestic violence situation between him and Paige. Even though he was cleared of battery charges, GFW still has him suspended until the Orlando police finish their work on the incident.

In an update to the situation, PWInsider debunked rumors of GFW doing this as a money saving reason and instead as something Anthem’s Ed Nordholm is keeping as a stance till the legal investigation is over. Also reported this decision did not involve Jeff Jarrett nor others from GFW’s management who might be more willing to bring back El Patron as quickly as possible.

Update to Davey Richards’ Release from GFW

As previously reported, GFW released Davey Richards and Matt Morgan earlier in the week. Richards thanked GFW for the time spent with the company while Morgan stated his release was due to schedule issues.

In an update to the situation, PWInsider reported Richards’ release was unconditional and did not include a no compete clause meaning Richards could wrestle for any company he wants without having to wait the usual 90 days. Richards was revealed to have asked for the release in order to purse a medical degree and possible career in the medical industry.

Rumor: WWE Considering Bringing Back Taboo Tuesday as a PPV Event

WWE is currently rumored to be considering bringing back Taboo Tuesday as a pay-per-view event in the near future, based on recent trademark filings.

The company filed a new trademark for the term on July 24th and covered both the fan and online aspect of the event under the Goods & Services portion of the filing.

The WWE originally held the event from 2004 to 2008, initially as Taboo Tuesday and then later as Cyber Sunday during the first brand split era.
