Cedric Alexander defeated TJP in a Cruiserweight Championship tournament quarterfinal match

Alexander came out to face TJP before we got an inset promo with Alexander saying he won’t fall for TJP’s games. TJP told Dasha Fuentes that it’s ridiculous that he needs to go through a tournament to get his title, but he’ll do it to prove how great he is.

A huge TJP chant broke out and they went at it quickly on the mat. Alexander reversed a running rana into a deadweight powerbomb. TJP went for an armbar, but Alexander nipped up out of it. More fast action on the mat showcased just how much Alexander can do on the ground.

Alexander hit a backflip into a headscissor roll before landing a gorgeous dropkick. TJP avoided a flip dive and got a rana into an armbar, then transitioned into a kneeling bow and arrow before Alexander got a rope break. TJP landed a corner European uppercut before eating a barrage of chops. He got the upper hand and elbowed Alexander’s head on the mat.

TJP ducked his head for a backdrop and ate a kick and an uppercut. He went to the apron for a sunset flip that he turned into a Sharpshooter before moving into an Indian Deathlock and then turning that into a cradle for one. TJP snapped Alexander down and hit an outside-in hilo before locking on an armbar, moving into a chinlock, and then grinding away on his face in the ropes.

TJP locked in a nasty abdominal stretch until Alexander shifted into a cradle. Alexander landed the Neuralizer for two. He then hit the corner high kick and landed a springboard flatliner for another two count. Alexander went for the Lumbar Check, but TJP locked on a headlock to avoid it. TJP dropkicked Alexander’s knee, but he hit a spin kick and sent TJP off the apron to the floor, where he hit a flip dive.

Alexander gave him a big forearm, but TJP turned the Neuralizer into the kneebar. TJP used a cradle with the trunks, but it only got two. He landed a springboard forearm and locked on the kneebar, but Alexander made it to the ropes.

TJP opted to take a four count on the ropes to do more damage. They exchanged stiff strikes before TJP went for the Detonation Kick, but Alexander avoided that and turned it into a Lumbar Check to win. This was an outstanding match — one of the best TJP has had on 205 Live and easily Alexander’s best match in the company.

Backstage: Drake Maverick

In a sit-down interview with WWE.com, Drake Maverick said he wants the most diverse division in the company and said the best cruiserweight action in the world is on 205 Live.

Backstage: Musta Ali, Buddy Murphy

Murphy vs. Ali is next week. Ali said that Gallagher made him feel new levels of pain, and thanks to the WrestleMania sign, he was motivated to keep going. Murphy said that the match with Gallagher was tough on Ali, but he’ll be tougher.

Roderick Strong defeated Kalisto in a Cruiserweight Championship tournament quarterfinal match

Lince Dorado and Gran Metalik motivated Kalisto before his match against Strong. Kalisto entered to no reaction. Strong’s Twitter post about wanting to be at WM was showcased — making him a favorite in this one.

Kalisto armdragged Strong before landing a big dropkick for two. They fought on the floor for a bit. Kalisto went for a barricade-walk rana that Strong avoided, but he ate a rana anyway and went into the timekeeper’s barricade.

Strong hit a release suplex onto the announce table and stomped away mid-ring. Strong attacked Kalisto’s back on the ropes and mocked him with a lucha chant before hitting a Minoru Suzuki-esque running dropkick for two. Strong locked on a modified Gory Special, but Kalisto elbowed his way out. Kalisto recovered and hit the springboard twist. A basement rana then hit for two.

Strong turned a Salida Del Sol attempt into a gutbuster on the rope, with him following up with an Olympic Slam for two. Strong’s Tiger Driver was turned into a Code Red for two. They fought up top. Kalisto wanted a super rana and Strong wanted a slam, but Kalisto turned that into a Michinoku Driver off the top for two.

A backbreaker led to the End of Heartache and a win for Strong. Strong worked as a heel for one of the first times in WWE, and he was fantastic at it.
