Shane McMahon Hospitalized; WrestleMania Match in Limbo

Shane McMahon is currently hospitalized in New York due to a “massive infection” and umbilical hernia, WWE.com says. According to the Wrestling Observer, this appears to be legitimate and not part of WWE’s storyline, where Shane McMahon was also “injured” after an attack by Kevin Owens and Sami Zayn two weeks ago.

According to the WWE.com article:

Following the vicious assault, McMahon went to the Caribbean with his family to rest and recuperate. While there, Shane developed a massive infection due to acute diverticulitis and was hospitalized for several days in Antigua before being flown back to a New York-area hospital, where he is currently being treated with heavy doses of antibiotics. The doctors in New York have also discovered that Shane suffered an umbilical hernia during the attack, which will require surgery once the infection has been eradicated.

If the injury is in fact legit, it would seem to put his planned WrestleMania match (teaming with Daniel Bryan against Owens and Zayn) in doubt, since it’s just two weeks away and Shane is going to require surgery, according to WWE.

WWE reportedly had a plan B if Daniel Bryan wasn’t cleared to return and it seems like they might have to go with another plan B now that Shane may be out.

Diverticulitis is a sometimes chronic disease that causes inflammation or infection in the large intestine. Brock Lesnar had it and underwent multiple surgeries and it eventually lead to him retiring from MMA fighting in 2011 before he eventually returned in 2016 after having part of his colon removed.
