Big Show on His Hip Injury, Missing Greatest Royal Rumble, & New Contract

Recent episode of The Steve Austin Show podcast had Big Show as the guest discussing his recent hip injury, missing the Greatest Royal Rumble event, and his contract status with the WWE.

On the topic of his recent hip injury, Big Show stated he had to postpone his return to the WWE due to getting an infection from his first hip surgery and needing another surgery to fix the issue.

“I started freaking out, thinking ‘here we go again.’ They ended up cutting it open and exercising the hard infection. Then we did an open wound infection, which was all superficial. I have a hole in my leg on a Monday and I have to call Vince and have to say ‘I can’t go, I have a 3.5 cm hole in my leg right now and I probably shouldn’t travel with it, especially out of the country.”

On the topic of missing the Greatest Royal Rumble event, Big Show stated he healed in time in order to be able to participate in the event but WWE was not willing to risk his health for the event nor for the trip needed to Saudi Arabia.

“To Vince and Paul’s credit, after about four days it started closing up real quick and I said ‘I can go if you want me to go,’ and Paul says ‘Why risk it? There’s plenty of time, we’re going back. It’s not worth risking our investment in you.'”

On the topic of his contract status with the WWE, Big Show revealed his contract with the WWE actually expired after this year’s Royal Rumble but he recently agreed to a new 3-year deal with the company. He also stated this new deal will allow him to be in more of a mentor and ambassador role for the company.

“There’s not a lot of pressure on me to have to be there every week and get people over or carry two or three segments.I can kind of show up, help the younger guys here and there, and I get to pursue outside projects that are important to me.”
