this has always confused me. Didn't NWA's title become the WCW title which in turn became the WWE world Heavyweight title? so what the heck is this title and how did TNA get the NWA name?

I'm not exactly sure, but I think WCW broke away from the NWA in the late 80's early 90's. So the WCW and NWA title are complety seperate from each other.

How the hell can TNA say they have the NWA championship when the WWE rightfully owns the WCW championship?

Lesnar is wrestling for IWGP, a Japanese promotion. Up until at least a week ago he was IWGP champion.

IWGP has a link to the NWA (somewhere somehow) and hence why he is elidgeible, I think. Steiner I dont know about other than he is wrestling in a promotion booked by Rikishi operating out of Italy.

There is no promotion in Japan called IWGP. Never has been. The IWGP Championship is the title of New Japan Pro Wrestling.
