* Lesnar earned the “Submission of the Night” award after submitting Shane Carwin.
* Harris earned the “Knockout of the Night” award after defeating Dave Branch.
* Bonnar, Soszynski, Leben, and Akiyama all earned “Fight of the Night” awards. Leben and Akiyama got their awards for their fight which Leben won via triangle choke, while Soszynski and Bonnar won for their bout that ended with a second-round TKO of Soszynski.
Brock Lesnar won Submission of the Night for his second-round arm triangle victory over Shane Carwin. Some questioned that decision, and White addressed them. “Whoever deserves the check deserves the check,” White said. “If anybody disagrees that Brock Lesnar was the ‘Submission of the Night,’ please speak now; you’re out of your mind. Nobody expected him to win by submission.”
It could also be argued that Chris Lytle’s submission win was also unexpected. It could also be said that although Chris Leben-Yoshihiro Akiyama and Stephan Bonnar-Krzysztof Soszynski were worthy of the Fight of the Night award, Ricardo Romero and Seth Petrzuelli would likely be considered unlucky to walk away with nothing. “What I expect of these guys is I expect these guys to go out and perform,” White said. “Let me tell you this, and I mean it, we’re writing some [expletive] checks tonight. We’re writing checks – more than what you heard here tonight. Guys are going to get well taken care of tonight. Tonight was the greatest night of fights I’ve ever seen. There’s going to be some happy [expletives] skipping out of the MGM tonight, I’ll tell you that right now.”
