Those are insane numbers and the big drop was expected. $32.5 million for a film in its second week is just ridiculous.

Marvel Studios’ Thor claimed the top spot at the box office this weekend. The comic book epic scored the #1 spot with a $66 million opening weekend. The movie opened in 3,955 theaters with a $16,688 per-theater average. It is the second-biggest opening weekend of the year, behind last week’s Fast Five. The film has already grossed $133 million overseas for a worldwide total of $199.4 million. It had a budget of $150 million.

The romantic comedy Something Borrowed opened at #4 with $13.2 million. Starring Gennifer Goodwin and Kate Hudson, the film opened in 2,904 theaters for a $4,530 average. The film had a budget of $35 million.
Rio fell three spots to #5 in its fourth week. The animated film grossed $8.2 million to bring its domestic total of $114.9 million. It has a worldwide total of $380.5 million on a $90 million budget.
Water for Elephants fell two spots to #6 with $5.6 million. The romantic drama has a domestic total of $41.6 million after three weeks and a worldwide total of $49.5 million from a $38 million budget.
Tyler Perry’s Madea’s Big Happy Family fell four spots to #7 in its third week. The film brought in $3.9 million and now has $46.8 million from a budget of $25 million.
Prom fell three spots to #8 in its second week with $2.4 million. The teen comedy had a 49% drop, high for its genre. The film has grossed $7.8 million on a budget of $8 million.
Soul Surfer slipped two spots to #9 in its fifth week. The biopic drama grossed $2.1 million and now has a total gross of $36.7 million. The budget was $18 million.
Hoodwinked: Hood vs. Evil fell four spots to #10 in its second week with $1.9 million. The film had a drop-off of 54%, very high for an animated family film. The fairy-tale comedy has grossed $6.7 million from a budget of $30 million.
