UFC fighter Shane Carwin has confirmed via his Twitter account that Paul Heyman has been working with him on promos for UFC 131 on Saturday, June 11. The event, which was originally scheduled to feature a main event of Brock Lesnar vs. Junior Dos Santos, will now feature Carwin taking Lesnar’s spot. The fight will be a #1 contenders match for the UFC World Heavyweight title.
According to a source, this is not a deal with the UFC, but rather an agreement with the production company that develops their “Countdown” pay-per-view specials. The source notes that Spike TV hired Heyman to help with the show as his original role was to help Lesnar promote the fight. He was then asked to help Carwin when Lesnar was forced to pull out due to ongoing health issues.
As of now, this appears to be a one-time deal as there are no reports that Heyman will be working with the UFC on a full-time basis. We’ll keep you posted as we get more.
