— Kazuchika Okada won the IWGP Heavyweight Title from Hiroshi Tanahashi at this weekend’s New Japan Pro Wrestling PPV. Okada was Samoa Joe’s sidekick in TNA from 2010-2011 and returned to NJPW in December before making a challenge for the belt at the Tokyo Dome Show on January 4. Tanahashi held the title since January 2011 Okada ended Hiroshi Tanahashi’s record 13-month reign as champion Sunday at New Japan Pro Wrestling’s The New Beginning pay-per-view event in Osaka, Japan. The show also saw Davey Richards and Rocky Romero regain the IWGP Junior Heavyweight Tag Team Championship from Prince Devitt and Ryusuke Taguchi.
— Jesse Sorenson was taken to the hospital as a precaution as he was knocked out during the match and the company wasn’t taking any chances. Mike Tenay said during the pay-per-view that Sorensen had suffered some sort of neck injury. We hope to have more soon.
