Smashing Pumpkins front man Billy Corgan recently discussed the possibilities for a professional wrestling reality show and the future for his Chicago-based promotion Resistance Pro. Here are some highlights:
On wanting to do a better job than WWE: “I had been wanting to do this for a while. It’s like anything in life. You sit on the sideline and think, ‘I can do this better.’ I would watch [‘Monday Night] Raw’ and say, ‘I would have done that.’ It got to the point where I thought, ‘Let me put my money where my mouth is.'”
On expanding Resistance Pro into a reality show: “You don’t want to let people know too much of what’s going on behind the scenes, but I don’t see where similar shows have hurt the movie business, the NFL or NASCAR. What goes on there sometimes becomes part of the business. When people are really good at what they do, you buy into what’s happening.”
How he wants to impact the wrestling world: “I’ve learned through the years with the Pumpkins that there is no shame in combining social concerns with artistic endeavors. Often times, the two go hand in hand. One of the things we want is to be part of positive change in the wrestling industry.”
