According to USA Today, a proposed amendment may prohibit the U.S. military from sponsoring professional or semi-professional sporting events. The amendment states that, “None of the funds made available in this act may be used to sponsor professional or semi-professional motorsports, fishing, wrestling or other sports.”
The Department of Defense is currently spending more than $80 million this year to sponsor NASCAR racing teams, Indy racing, professional bass fishing, pro wrestling, and ultimate fighting.
The amendment passed the House Appropriations Committee on Thursday, but still has to pass a full vote in the House of Representatives and the U.S. Senate.
