Linda McMahon won the Republican primary tonight in Connecticut for the state’s vacant Senate seat. Linda handily beat Chris Shays in the primary to move on to a November showdown with the Democratic nominee, Chris Murphy. Murphy, a three-term Congressman, easily beat Secretary of State Susan Bysiewicz. Murphy is also leading Linda McMahon in the polls.
‘‘I’m going to be outspent five- or ten-to-one in this election,” Murphy said on Tuesday. ‘‘But Dick Blumenthal was right two years ago. Connecticut voters want an election, not an auction. And I just fundamentally don’t believe that Linda McMahon can paper over her record as CEO of the WWE with a lot of money.”
