Larry Winters, who was a regular in Philadelphia’s Tri-State Wrestling Alliance and Tod Gordon’s ECW, passed away yesterday. The cause of death has not been confirmed but the latest word is that he had a heart attack.
Winters made his professional debut in 1982 and was a regular for the TWA, also working in smaller TV roles for the AWA, WWC and Jim Crockett Promotions. He became the first booker for Gordon’s ECW in 1992 and trained the likes of Don E. Allen, Glen Osbourne and The Sandman. He was eventually replaced by Eddie Gilbert, as Gordon was looking for a less traditional style of booking, and went into semi-retirement in 1993.
Winters made a return in 2002, working local independent promotions in the Philadelphia area. He was part of the TWA reunion shows in 2009 and 2010 as well.
On behalf of everyone here on the website, our condolences to the family, friends and fans of Mr. Winters.
