According to sources, one of the reasons WWE wanted two matches on the WrestleMania 31 Kickoff Show was so the fans who were watching the two hour pre-show would have more live content to occupy their time. They also wanted to free up time on the pay-per-view portion of the show so they wouldn’t be forced to rush things, which ended up happening anyways.
Speaking of the Kickoff Show, WWE originally considered bumping the Divas match to the pre-show instead of the Andre The Giant Memorial Battle Royal, however they were worried about negative backlash from the fans due to the “#GiveDivasAChance” movement.
