Report: Hulk Hogan’s Gawker Lawsuit May Still Be Unsealed

Hulk Hogan may have to see the details of his Gawker lawsuit be made public after all. A report hit over the weekend, per the Associated Press, that the judge in the case had ruled against a request by several media outlets (including the AP) to unseal the lawsuit over interest in the FBI’s involvement in the case. As it turns out, that was an error on the AP’s part; the judge ruled not on the unsealing motion but on another that had been previously filed.

There is a hearing set for Thursday morning (per ABC News) regarding the request from the media to allow access to the FBI records in the case. The records were unsealed specifically for Gawker at their request but were not allowed to be revealed publicly.

At interest is why the FBI got involved and why the court records in a civil court case are being kept as private as these ones are. That has led to a lot of questions as to what may be on the tapes, and what the FBI uncovered in their investigation of the sex tape leak. Of course, the lawsuit did ultimately cause the reveal of Hogan’s racial tirade from the sex tape, which led to his WWE Legends contract being terminated and Hogan being scrubbed off WWE.com. The start of the civil trial is currently set for March 2016.
