WWE released a video interview with the Hardy Boyz on the WWE Network, titled Reborn by Fate: Hardys Interview, in which Corey Graves acknowledges the “Broken Hardys” gimmick and directly asks them about it.
This part is towards the end of the video:
Graves: While you guys were gone, you both underwent some different character changes. You guys worked really hard and took some risks doing some unusual, out of the box stuff. What was it like coming back to WWE to the Extreme Hardy Boyz?
Matt: For me, it was very odd going back to regular Matt Hardy Version One, or Matt Hardy Team Extreme. It was tricky. It was hard to actually be me, which sounds strange, but it was because I got so used to doing my other thing. Things that I had created or morphed into, I almost became. I felt like a broken man having to just go back to being plain old Matt Hardy in many ways. It’s still within me. It’s still contained. When the time is right, I will unleash it again.
Graves: What is the status of your shattered personas coming here in WWE?
Matt: There definitely is a chance. It’s something that’s a work in progress. Unfortunately, because of legal reasons, I really can’t go into that right now. But I find it very flattering and humbling that every time we come in front of the WWE universe, they chant and they address it and they acknowledge it. Please keep doing that. We love it when they do that. And hopefully sooner than later, we’ll be able to go into more detail about everything.
When it happens – I’m not even going to say “if,” I’m going to say when it happens – it’s going to be the most exciting thing to hit WWE programming in a long, long time. We will keep people guessing.
