Sports Illustrated is reporting that Vince McMahon is not interested in bringing back Rey Mysterio Jr., with the reason being his representation, namely Konnan. Konnan has constantly dumped on WWE for their handling of him as Max Moon and their handling of other Mexican stars, most famously starting a campaign to “free Rey” at the end of Rey Mysterio’s last WWE stint. Chris Jericho brought Konnan backstage at a recent WWE event, but that doesn’t seem to have helped matters.
GFW will want Rey Mysterio as he is still popular and from what I saw in Lucha Underground, he can still go with the right opponent. SI’s article does rightly point out that Mysterio’s demands about working his own dates and keeping all of the pay may be a sticking point since Anthem are reportedly asking talent to cough up some of their indie booking funds, but for a star as large as Rey Mysterio, they may make concessions.
It was reported a couple of weeks ago that Rey Mysterio has already received a contract offer from GFW.
