Vince McMahon being busted open and bleeding on SmackDown after a Kevin Owens headbutt was “very much planned,” according to Dave Meltzer in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter.
Though it was possible that McMahon was busted open from a hard headbutt, it seems very unlikely. There obviously is no way to guarantee that a headbutt will draw blood, and that would be a pretty dumb and dangerous way to go about it anyway. According to Meltzer, the likely way that McMahon was busted open was that he bladed beforehand, then covered up the cut with some sort of artificial skin. When he was headbutted by Owens, it would open up the cut.
WWE cameras also zoomed in on the cut, when they often cut away, since WWE has (or had) a rule that blood isn’t allowed to be shown on television.
