As mentioned earlier, Kevin Owens and Sami Zayn were sent home by WWE today from the WWE European tour, which runs until November 12.
In an update on the situation, Pro Wrestling Sheet is reporting that during the segment between Owens, Zayn and The New Day last night on SmackDown, Owens and Zayn went against the creative direction they were given and didn’t do the planned finish. During the segment, Owens was supposed to attack Kofi Kingston, then he and Zayn were supposed to be laid out by The New Day, giving them the upper hand that night. Instead, Owens took out Kofi, then he and Zayn rolled out of the ring and they slowly just went back down the ramp as The New Day checked on Kofi in the ring.
Pro Wrestling Sheet also says that “multiple sources reached out saying the duo have been slightly difficult to work with lately and seem unhappy backstage.”
PWInsider added that there was a situation after the SmackDown TV taping where Kevin Owens was “complaining loudly” on the tour bus, which one source described as “the last straw following a long few days of touring.” Another person defended Owens though, saying that he was just venting and that it wasn’t a major issue. However, the situation at the SmackDown taping may have “forced WWE’s hand.”
It should also be noted that Owens and Zayn were reportedly close with Neville, who recently walked out due to being unhappy, and with former writer Jimmy Jacobs, who was fired by WWE for taking a photo with the Bullet Club.
