Laurel Van Ness requested her release from Impact after the set of TV tapings last month in Ottawa. However, Impact has not yet granted the release and her contract doesn’t officially expire until the summer of 2018.
Spoilers for this week’s Impact below…
An important thing to note is that Laurel Van Ness actually won the Impact Knockouts Championship at the TV tapings (that will air this Thursday). She asked for her release after the tapings, so she is still the Knockouts Champion right now.
According to Dave Meltzer on Wrestling Observer Radio, that is the likely reason that she has not officially been granted the release yet, since Impact probably wants her to drop the title at the next set of tapings, which aren’t until January. According to Meltzer, Van Ness agreed with Impact that she should have asked for her release earlier in the tapings.
