WWE.com has announced that Jonathan Coachman is returning to WWE and will be on the announce team replacing Booker T on Raw starting tonight. The Coach left WWE back in 2008 to join ESPN and after making sporadic appearances on WWE television again since he left ESPN last year, it was not surprising that Coachman would eventually be back with WWE in some capacity.
Coach originally joined WWE as a backstage interviewer in 1999 before being moved to the announce desk in 2003 where he quickly became a character as well, becoming the assistant to Eric Bischoff, the GM of Raw at the time. Coachman was even due to have a match with Steve Austin, until Austin walked out due to issues with the storyline that called for Coachman to win.
As for Booker T, WWE says he “will resume his duties as a panelist on WWE’s pay-per-view Kickoff broadcasts and will continue to make appearances on Raw and beyond as a WWE ambassador.”
