The new wrestlers who signed on for WWE’s upcoming NXT UK series signed one year deals worth 24,000 pounds ($31,600 USD), according to the Wrestling Observer Newsletter (via Wrestle Talk magazine). That’s up from the $20,000 deals that the original WWE UK division wrestlers got in their first year. Those wrestlers (like Pete Dunne, Tyler Bate, etc.) are very likely now making more.
The new contracts also reportedly have options for WWE to cancel them at the four month and eight month mark.
WWE has essentially pushed the UK division in response to ITV’s “World of Sport” revival in the UK and they’ve been signing talent in order to keep them from working on World of Sport. World of Sport has ten episodes that will begin airing later this month and WWE is apparently waiting to see if the show will be renewed for more episodes. The early termination options in the contracts could be a response to this, since if World of Sport ceases to exist again in a few weeks, WWE may no longer feel the need to “stockpile” wrestlers just to keep them away from potential competitors.
The UK contracts prevent wrestlers from working for companies with TV deals or “major online followings.”
