Roman Reigns on WWE Off-Season Benefits and Women Headlining WrestleMania

As noted before, WWE held a press conference earlier this week to officially announce that Tampa Bay will be the host city of next year’s WrestleMania 36 event. Among WWE’s guest speakers at the conference was Roman Reigns, who discussed a variety of topics including his thoughts on a potential off-season in WWE and women wrestlers headlining a WrestleMania event.

On the topic of the idea of WWE holding an annual off-season, Reigns stated a potential off-season would be very beneficial for WWE’s talent, fans, and even their creative team as well.

“We do it the way we do it, and I’m never opposed to trying something new. This formula has worked and Sports Entertainment is a ‘what have you done for me lately’ industry. Unfortunately, we don’t have an off-season like most sports or other kinds of forms of entertainment or competition but, you know, I think if we could make it work, it would give a great benefit to our performers and our fans as well. It would definitely give our performers another couple of months if not a full quarter to rest and recover, not only just from a physical standpoint, but creatively.

When you go year-round, we’re always trying to evolve, trying to grow as far as our stories and our character goes and when you’re doing it over and over and over it can be tough. I think that’s what makes WWE and its superstars so tough and it’s an accomplishment to get to where we are. Only we can handle this and we’ve proved it, so it’s just a part of the gig. I don’t think it’s something that shouldn’t be looked into, but if the schedule stays the same I’m gonna be the guy that’ll run it.”

On the topic of the idea of women wrestlers headlining a WrestleMania event one day, Reigns stated he fully supports the idea and praised WWE’s women’s division for all the hard work they’ve done so far.

What better way to showcase what we’ve been doing for years with our women?. I stand firmly behind these strong women and I’m so proud of them and the strength and the determination they’ve shown. They’re role models for our own children. My daughter is 11 years old and these women are showing her the way and showing her that women can do anything men can do, even better sometimes.

They’re all great examples and if women can handle giving birth and all of the crazy things that come along with nurturing life then why can’t they main-event a sports entertainment show? They can do everything that is super-hard in life and I know they can knock that out of the park too.”
