The tag team formerly known as the War Raiders made their main roster debuts as part of Raw on Monday and are now known as “The Viking Experience,” which has led to a lot of groaning by fans.
But according to PWInsider, that wasn’t the initial name change that was pitched. They were reportedly going to be called “The Berzerkers,” but that was changed as their debut got closer.
It’s not great compared to the War Raiders or War Machine (their name in NJPW and Ring of Honor), but it sounds better than The Viking Experience to me. A Berserker is another term for Viking warrior.
“The Viking Experience” name is Vince McMahon’s idea, according to Dave Meltzer. It’s not clear why exactly he changed their name.
Of course, there was also a wrestler called The Berzerker in the WWF from 1991-1993.
