AEW and WarnerMedia announced on Wednesday that AEW Dynamite has been extended on TNT through 2023 and as part of the new deal, there will be a second AEW show that will air on TV.
That second show will apparently be a rebranded AEW Dark, which will move from YouTube to TNT, according to TNT and TBS president Kevin Reilly, who spoke to TheWrap.
“We’re going to embellish [‘AEW Dark’ on YouTube] and put some additional material, kind of behind-the-scenes, kind of docu-follow stuff, if you will, about the athletes and the stories. We think that’s going to end up being a really good, robust, different kind of show,” Reilly told TheWrap.
Reilly added that AEW Dark may be renamed and rebranded and would air weekly on TNT. He said that there is no planned day of the week yet, but told Variety that it won’t be on Mondays.
Reilly was then asked by TheWrap if there would still be any AEW Dark presence or any original AEW matches on YouTube and said, “I think we should continue to put some stuff out on YouTube, just to build that bridge — but not the whole show.”
Dave Meltzer previously reported on Wednesday that the new show would be an extra hour in addition to Dark and that Dark would not be going away, so hopefully there will be some clarification soon.
