Last night on WWE Backstage, it was announced by Ryan Satin that former NFL player Rob Gronkowski was “deep in talks with WWE and close to finalizing a deal” and “could be making an appearance in WWE as early as March 20 on Friday Night SmackDown in New Orleans.”
The Wrap is reporting that Gronkowski has officially signed and will in fact appear on the March 20 SmackDown.
Additionally, the Wrap says that Gronk will appear at WrestleMania this year in order to set up a future match. He isn’t expected to wrestle at the PPV, but will likely do an angle building up a match down the line.
Gronkowski will be working as an “active pro wrestler” going forward, PWInsider added. He wasn’t signed to have a non-wrestling role – he will be a wrestler.
