More on WWE NXT Viewership for April 20

The April 20th episode of WWE NXT saw NXT gain a small rise in overall viewership but suffered a noticeable decline in key demographic rankings.

NXT drew 841,000 viewers and a #27 ranking in the 18-49 demographic on USA Network.

The results of the quarter-hour segment breakdowns were not revealed in this week’s issue of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter but Dave Meltzer reported that the main reason for NXT’s decline in key demographic rankings was due to stiff competition from news programming covering the verdict of the Derek Chauvin trial. In regards to non-sports shows, NXT was ranked #7 for the night in the key demographics rankings. In regards to head-to-head competition against sports, the NBA game of the Los Angeles Clippers vs. Portland Trail Blazers drew 872,000 viewers, a 0.37 key demographic rating, and a #10 key demographic ranking.

In terms of key demographic viewership, NXT had 293,000 viewers. NXT’s biggest increase was with their Males 18-34 group at 5.1% higher than last week’s show. NXT’s sole decline was with their Females 18-34 group at 16.1% lower than last week’s show.

In terms of yearly comparisons, NXT was up 21.1% in overall viewership and up 22.2% in key demographic viewership compared to the same week last year.


More on AEW Dynamite Viewership for April 21

The April 21st episode of AEW Dynamite saw AEW suffer a sizeable drop in overall viewership.

AEW drew 1,104,000 viewers and a #2 ranking in the 18-49 demographic on TNT.

Dave Meltzer reported in this week’s Wrestling Observer Newsletter that this week’s show skewed older than usual due to the bulk of AEW’s viewership losses were from their younger key demographics. Meltzer reported that this week’s show suffered the most in their overall 18-34 key demographic with a 34.8% drop compared to last week’s show. In regards to head-to-head competition from sports, the MLB baseball game of New York Yankees vs. Atlanta Braves on ESPN drew 835,000 viewers, a 0.25 key demographic rating, and a #7 key demographic ranking.

In terms of key demographic viewership, AEW had 485,000 viewers. AEW’s sole increase was their Males 35-49 group at 0.4% higher than last week’s show. AEW’s biggest decrease was their Males 18-34 group at 36.5% lower than last week’s show.

In terms of yearly comparisons, AEW was up 51% in overall viewership and up 48% in key demographic viewership compared to the same week last year.

AEW Dynamite started off with around 1,192,000 viewers and their biggest gain of the night was the bulk of the AEW Women’s Championship match of Tay Conti vs. Hikaru Shida, the Miro promo segment, and the start of the Inner Circle promo segment which gained 75,000 viewers. AEW’s biggest decline of the night was the latter half of the Inner Circle promo segment and the Billy Gunn vs. QT Marshall match which lost 80,000 viewers.
