As noted before, AEW is currently rumored to have signed or be close to signing both CM Punk and Daniel Bryan to official contracts with the company.
Fightful Select reported that their sources within AEW stated that the company’s interest in signing Punk to a deal went as far back as last year. It was reported that it is currently not known how far back the formal talks between both sides have been.
It was also reported that as recently as a couple months ago, many within AEW’s locker room had not heard of anything regarding Punk possibly coming in to the company. The rumors of Punk potentially signing a deal with the company reportedly has been a big topic of conversation backstage over the past week.
It was also reported that those within the company who haven’t worked with Punk have been asking others who have past history of how he is to work with.
During a recent interview with the New York Post, AEW CEO Tony Khan was asked if the company has recently signed Punk and Bryan to official contracts. Khan stated:
“I have no comment on those, but those are good questions but I can’t comment on those.”
Khan was also asked his thoughts on what it would mean for a company other than WWE to sign both Punk and Bryan to deals at the same time.
“I can’t comment on those two guys, but I think there are certainly a lot of exciting rumors right now.”
