As noted before, WWE recently announced that Sami Zayn and Kevin Owens will be defending their Undisputed WWE Tag Team Championship against The Bloodline’s Roman Reigns and Solo Sikoa at their Night of Champions 2023 event later this month in Saudi Arabia.
This announcement was interesting due to Zayn, who is of Syrian ethnicity, had been an outspoken critic of the Saudi Arabian government’s involvement in the ongoing Syrian Civil War. The Saudi government in return had forbidden WWE from having Zayn travel and work at any of WWE’s events in their country.
Dave Meltzer reported in a recent episode of the Wrestling Observer Radio that the reason why Zayn is allowed to work at WWE’s upcoming Night of Champions 2023 event is due to Syria was recently readmitted to the Arab League. Syria hadpreviously been kicked out of the Arab League in 2011 due to diplomatic relations between Syria and Saudi Arabia had broken down over issues caused by the Syrian Civil War at the time.
As part of Syria’s readmission, the Saudi government lifted their ban on Syrians not being allowed to travel to their country. Meltzer reported that this ban lifting also included the ban that had been placed on Zayn for WWE events in the country.
