WWE SmackDown Notes: New Unified Woman’s Tag Team Champions, Liv Morgan Surprise Return

Shayna Baszler & Ronda Rousey Win Unified WWE Women’s Tag Team Titles

Friday’s WWE SmackDown show in Lafayette, Louisiana featured a WWE Women’s Tag Team Championship Unification match between Shayna Baszler & Ronda Rousey and Alba Fyre & Isla Dawn.

This match was to unify both the WWE Women’s Tag Team Championship, which were held by Baszler & Rousey, and the NXT Women’s Tag Team Championship, which were held by Fyre & Dawn.

Prior to the start of the match, SmackDown commentator Michael Cole announced that the winner of this match would be able to defend their newly unified Women’s Tag Team titles on RAW, SmackDown, and NXT.

The finish to this match involved Baszler applying a Kirifuda Clutch to Dawn that was broken up by Fyre hitting a Swanton off the top rope. Rousey then got in the ring and fought with Fyre but was tossed out. Dawn then tagged in Fyre but Baszler attacked them before they could do anything to her. This led to Baszler hitting Fyre with a Kirifuda Clutch and Rousey doing the same to Dawn for the submission victory to become the new Unified WWE Women’s Tag Team Champions.

Liv Morgan Makes Surprise Return at SmackDown

Tonight’s SmackDown show in Lafayette also featured Liv Morgan making her surprise return to WWE.

Following the WWE Women’s Tag Team Championship Unification match, Ronda Rousey called out Raquel Rodriguez who was walking to the back after watching the match from ringside. Rodriguez responded stating that she wanted her rematch for the Women’s Tag titles that she never actually lost. Rodriguez also stated that she had found someone to be her tag team partner for this match. After Baszler asked who was this mystery person, Morgan made her surprise return and confronted Rousey and Baszler in the ring.

This was Morgan’s first appearance in WWE since this past May due to a torn rotator cuff injury.
