Chris Jericho vs. Komander

Pyro kicks off another exciting edition of AEW Dynamite as “Judas” plays throughout the SaskTel Centre to signal the arrival of Chris Jericho for our opening contest! Jericho is alone on his walk down the ramp tonight, the JAS notably absent as the crowd sings along to the theme before Komander makes his way out next. We get a look at Komander’s recent performance in AEW as the luchador heads to the ring, and our opening match is underway!

Jericho uses his power early on in the match, but is met with the agility and high flying that Komander is known for as he heads to the ropes…connecting with a big hurricanrana on the Ocho, before sending him to the outside! Komander hits the ropes and follows up on this with a big twisting dive onto the former World Champion! Komander is in control as he heads up the steel steps before hitting a leap off the apron to Jericho, sending him back into the ring after as he slides in…only to be intercepted by Jericho!

Jericho uses the size advantage once again as he slams Komander down hard, getting in control of the pace as he lays in a pair of chops sending Komander to the ropes. Jericho lifts him up, hitting a brainbuster on the luchador that gets him a nearfall. Komander starts to build up momentum again however, hitting a back heel kick that rocks Jericho…but the Ocho rocks back, sending Komander to the outside as we go to picture-in-picture!

Picture-in-Picture: Jericho is still firmly in control here, taunting the crowd before heading out of the ring to go back after the luchador. Shortly after, Jericho starts jawjacking with Abramhantes, which gives Komander an opening to attack…until the Ocho knocks him back, still taking control even after Komander starts to build things up again. Jericho with a suplex to bring Komander back into the ring now, but only gets a nearfall. Jericho takes the luchador back down, taunting the crowd again as we come back!

Komander catches Jericho by surprise, taking him down before looking for a hurricanrana…only for Jericho to drive him to the canvas with a powerbomb! Komander starts fighting back however, even getting a nearfall off a La Magistral pin combo! Komander hits the ropes, but is met with a clothesline by the Ocho, who ends up charging into the boot of the luchador in the corner.

Jericho catches Komander on the turnbuckle however, looking for a superplex on Komander…but the luchador fights out of it, sending Jericho down with a headbutt! Komander walks the ropes and hits a shooting star press…but only gets a two count before Jericho kicks out!

Komander heads to the apron but is intercepted by Jericho, only for the luchador to avoid a crossbody that sends Jericho to the outside instead! Komander gets to the corner, pulling off a spaceman ropewalk dive onto Jericho as a follow up! Jericho sent back into the ring but catches Komander by surprise, getting a nearfall in the process. Jericho goes for a Judas Effect but it’s dodged by Komander, who goes for a dragonrana…only for Jericho to catch him in midair, transitioning into a Liontamer that forces Komander to tap out!

Winner via submission: Chris Jericho

In-Ring: Chris Jericho, Don Callis

Jericho doesn’t get an opportunity to celebrate his win before Don Callis makes his way to the ring amidst some heavy boos. Callis congratulates Chris on his win tonight before talking about how the wrestling world is buzzing about the possibility of Jericho joining the Don Callis family. Don bigs up Jericho some more before showing some old footage of Callis and Jericho working together back in the day.

Jericho says he remember that day fondly, especially because he still has all his hair. He also says that Bad News Allen told him that day to always make sure he and Don stick together, before Callis says that Allen is up in heaven watching in excitement about Jericho joining up with him. Callis says there is no pressure, but he is sure Allen would want him to say yes before Callis leaves the ring, leaving us with Jericho in the ring.

Backstage: Jack Perry, Hook

We cut to the parking lot, where Alex Marvez asks Jack Perry from his car why he’s out here. Perry talks about the unsafe working environment of AEW and says he should be doing things in the ring and not in the parking lot…only to be interrupted by someone trying to open the door on the other side of the car. Perry stumbles out of the car after dealing with the child lock, nearly getting caught by HOOK before running off scene. HOOK also deals with the child lock to get out, telling Perry he’s after him before also walking off as we cut to commercial.

Backstage: Don Callis

We head backstage where Renee Paquette talks to Don Callis asking about what happened with Jericho, only for Callis to announce that he will go to the ring by himself to announce the Blackpool Combat Club’s fifth member for the upcoming Blood & Guts Match against The Elite. Renee asks about the threat of Kenny Omega, but Callis calls him a coward saying he betrayed Callis before heading off.

Video Segment: MJF, Adam Cole

Video Package: MJF and Adam continue to bond together as a tag team, this time hanging out at a local club where MJF shows off his playboy ways before playing some AEW Fight Forever (available now on all major consoles and PC!), before they have something of a heart-to-heart about the situation they’re in as a tag team in this Blind Eliminator Tournament.

Blind Tag Team Tournament Semifinal
Orange Cassidy & Darby Allin vs. Sammy Guevara & Daniel Garcia

Back at ringside, Darby Allin makes his way to the ring for our next match. This is followed by the arrival of the AEW International Champion, Orange Cassidy. Out next are Sammy Guevara and Daniel Garcia, notably coming out to their own themes rather than Jericho’s in light of what happened last week before this match gets underway!

We start things off with Orange and Sammy, the latter mocking Cassidy’s mannerisms…only to get caught in a side headlock by the champ! Sammy is quickly back in control as he beats down on Cassidy, before Garcia gets involved as a distraction. Cassidy with a tag to Darby now, who intercepts Garcia before pinning Sammy for a nearfall. Darby hits the ropes but is tripped up by Garcia, who sends Orange to the barricade next before tagging himself in!

Garcia grabs Darby with a spinning front chancery, taking him down to the canvas as we go to picture-in-picture!

Picture-in-Picture: Garcia is firmly in control as he tags in Sammy, who continues the attack with a delayed vertical suplex followed by a knee to the back with a chinlock. Sammy takes Darby down for a nearfall before Garcia tags in, driving a knee to the neck of Darby against the ropes! Garcia locks Darby up with some submission holds next, including a Boston crab before Sammy tags back in, keeping the pressure on Darby as we come back!

Darby fights out of the hold now, managing to reverse it until Garcia runs in to break things up! Darby comes after him, knocking him off the apron as Sammy catches him from behind while Garcia gets a blind tag. Darby goes for a pin on Sammy but finds out the hard way that’s not the legal man…but he manages to avoid disaster by Garcia to tag in the champ!

Cassidy goes on the attack, overwhelming Garcia enough for a nearfall! Orange sets up for an Orange Punch but is caught by Garcia, who goes for a Dragontamer on the champ instead! Orange is able to make it out, and hits a Stundog Millionaire on Garcia for a nearfall of his own! Sammy and Darby rush into the ring, with Sammy taking Darby out only for Cassidy to hit a Beach Break…but Garcia catches him with a nearfall instead!

This turns into an exchange of pin attempts by both men, until Garcia and Cassidy get back to their feet and end up taking each other out with a boot to the face! They slowly get to their feet and tag in Sammy and Darby respectively, both of whom trade blows until they end up in the corner. On the outside we see Garcia take the champ out on the apron, as Sammy gets to his feet before charging at Darby in the corner. Darby dodges this, but is caught with a boot as Sammy goes back on the attack.

Garcia has Orange in another Dragontamer until Prince Nana comes down telling Garcia to use Darby’s skateboard on the champion, but is cut off by Darby…who takes a big kick by Swerve on the apron! With that, Sammy has a chance to take Darby down with a GTH for the pin and the win to advance!

Winners via pinfall and advancing in the Blind Eliminator Tournament: Sammy Guevara & Daniel Garcia

Video: Nick Wayne

Video Package: A little bit of history on Nick Wayne as he prepares for his AEW debut against Swerve Strickland tonight on Dynamite

Backstage: Adam Cole, Roderick Strong

We’re backstage now as Renee looks to talk to Adam Cole, who is distracted by a phone call with Britt Baker and a confrontation by Roderick Strong…and Cole is suddenly interrputed by a text from MJF, who starts to big up their match until he mentions “having the flu” after seeing Brian Cage walk by.

This forces Cole to call MJF, telling him to get ready as we head back to ringside.

Blind Tag Team Tournament Semifinal
MJF & Adam Cole vs. Brian Cage & Big Bill

Big Bill and Brian Cage make their way to the ring for our next Blind Eliminator Tournament Semifinal match! Out next is MJF (notably looking much better now), who helps introduce Adam Cole before they head to the ring next. After a moment featuring Cole revealing the Better Than You Bay Bay shirt, this match gets underway!

We start off with MJF and Big Bill in the ring, with MJF hyping himself up for a body slam on Bill…but it fails, leading to MJF tagging in Cole and hightailing it up the ramp before Cole cuts him off and gives him a pep talk to come back to the match. Cage gets the tag in now, posing for the crowd to mock Cole…who responds in kind with a set of pushups.

There is decidedly not a lot of wrestling in this wrestling match, though that may be to the advantage of MJF and Cole as they continue to figure out a plan against the size of Cage and Bill, who tags in before taunting MJF to show he can beat Cole in how many pushups he can do. The champ reluctantly obliges…only to take a boot to the back by Bill, who knocks Cole off the apron and attacks MJF again before doing some pushups to mock his opponents as we go to picture-in-picture!

Picture-in-Picture: Bill and Cage are now in control of the situation, taking advantage of a worn-down MJF as Cage tags in before taking the champ down with a shoulder tackle. Cage goes after Cole on the apron again before Bill tags in, continuing the attack on MJF with a chinlock…but MJF manages to escape, at least for a second before he’s taken back down! Bill with a tag to Cage as they double-team the champ, with Cage hitting a big German suplex for a nearfall as we come back!

Cage gets a nearfall off of this before tagging Bill back in, and Bill rips the shirt off MJF before taunting him with it…and this only angers the champ, but stops a chokeslam by biting Bill’s hand before hitting the body slam he was looking for! MJF is exhausted as he drops down, trying to get a tag to Cole to no avail as Cage tags in and intercepts. Cage reverses a piledriver by MJF but is taken down instead, allowing MJF to get the tag to Cole!

Cole goes on the attack, taking Cage down as he looks to MJF. They make the tag looking for the double clothesline, but Cage puts a stop to it as Bill comes running in…only to take a double kick followed by a superkick to the face by Cole and MJF! Things get chaotic as MJF tags in Cole, hitting a Heat Seeker on Cage on the second rope before Cole hits the Boom for the pin and the win to advance!

Winners via pinfall and advancing in the Blind Eliminator Tournament: AEW World Champion MJF & Adam Cole

In-Ring: MJF, Adam Cole

MJF gets a microphone from ringside, asking Saskatoon if there are any devil worshippers in the house tonight. He says he’s super over, but you know who else is? MJF tells Cole to “do the thing,” and Cole does indeed do the thing, before MJF hypes up the new t-shirt and the fact they’re gonna go after that double clothesline.

Cole takes a moment for Storytime with Adam Cole Bay Bay, hyping up the unexpected success of this tag team and what it would mean to win at Collision on July 29. Things end when they “do the thing” with their new catchphrase, celebrating as we see Roderick Strong watching backstage.

Backstage: Jake Hager, Chris Jericho

Backstage, Renee talks to Jake Hager who looks to confront Chris Jericho after what’s been going on. Jericho says Don Callis makes some good points and talks up the history…but Hager says they have history as well, reminding Jericho that he saved his life ten years ago in Abu Dhabi, and was given a chance to do MMA and be in AEW because of Jericho. If Jericho cannot make a decision, then Hager cannot give 100 himself…as Hager hands his purple bucket hat to Jericho, before walking off.

Owen Hart Women’s Tournament Semifinal
Ruby Soho vs. Skye Blue

Back at ringside, Ruby Soho makes her way to the ring alongside The Outcasts for our next contest! We get a recap of Ruby defeating Britt Baker last week on Dynamite followed by the staredown with Skye Blue…who makes her way out to the ring next! A recap of her journey to the semifinals leads to this match getting underway!

Ruby is on the attack early on, but Skye is able to fight back as she sends Ruby to the corner. Ruby dodges an attack before Toni heads up on the apron for a distraction, only to be taken down by Skye…who catches Ruby with a kick to the head on the apron! Ruby fights back looking for an STO, but is driven face first onto the apron by Skye instead…only for Toni Storm to send her into the steel steps!

The referee catches this, using his discretion not to DQ Ruby immediately but rather kicking out the Outcasts from ringside. Ruby looks distraught but goes back on the attack, driving Skye’s knee into the steps for further damage before sending her head into the floor as we go to picture-in-picture!

Picture-in-Picture: Ruby is still in control despite Skye’s attempts to fight back, giving Ruby a chance to get a nearfall before bringing Skye back to the corner. Ruby stays on the injured leg, looking to maximize the damage even as Skye tries to fight back once again. This leads to Ruby pulling Skye’s leg up and slamming the knee against the ring canvas, looking quite confident as she continues. Ruby sends Skye back to the corner once more, this time heading out to slam the leg against the ring post before taunting Skye on the apron as we come back!

Skye is once again fighting back and this time is able to hit a kick to the face of Ruby, who rolls back into the ring. Skye goes up, but the damage to her knee causes trouble on the landing as Ruby blocks a follow up superkick…but Skye adjusts and hits a neckbreaker for a nearfall! Ruby is up on the ropes as Skye charges forward, but Ruby dodges it…only for Skye to dodge the Destination Unknown!

Ruby blocks a Code Blue attempt, tweaking the leg as she transitions into a single leg crab! Skye fights as hard as she can and makes it to the ropes to break the hold! Ruby gets dropped on her face by Skye Blue but it’s only enough for a nearfall as Skye goes up top again…only to be intercepted into a No Future for Ruby to score the pin and the win!

Winner via pinfall and advancing in the Owen Hart Women’s Tournament: Ruby Soho

Video: Harley Cameron

Video Package: A world premiere for Harley Cameron’s “Rap Class”

Swerve Strickland vs. Nick Wayne

We start off with Strickland and Wayne going at it until they’re in the corner, where Swerve mocks Nick for a moment…only for Nick to respond in kind! Nick hits the ropes as Swerve taches him, and there is a quick exchange of holds before Nick hits the corner for a Code Red attempt that is countered out by Swerve! Swerve takes a breather on the canvas as the crowd cheers on Nick, who takes a boot to the face by Strickland.

Nick catches Swerve by surprise with some nice kicks, but a moment of adulation causes him to get taken down by Swerve. Nick looks for a springboard cutter but is cut off by Prince Nana, allowing Swerve to catch him…but Swerve is met with a hurricanrana off the apron to the floor as we go to picture-in-picture!

Picture-in-Picture: Swerve is now in contorl as he goes after Nick, sending him into the barricade where he and Nana taunt Nick’s mother watching on from the front row. Swerve’s shenanigans catch up with him as Nick sends Swerve back into the ring for a nearfall, before heading up to the top rope…but Swerve knocks him to the apron. The two go at it here, before Swerve sends Nick down to the floor. Swerve heads out to do more damage before sending Nick back into the ring, setting up a chinlock to keep the young man worn down as we come back from break.

Nick starts fighting out of the hold but is met with a hard strike by Strickland, who misses a right hook and takes a left jab by Nick instead! Nick hits a shotgun dropkick to build things up, before hitting a spinning kick and a cutter…but it’s only a nearfall here! Nick heads to the ropes but is intercepted once again, but Swerve only gets a nearfall for his troubles as well!

Swerve sets Wayne up on the top turnbuckle as we see Darby Allin out on the stage to cheer his protege Nick Wayne on…and it seems to work as Nick hits a reverse rana followed by the springboard cutter for the pin…but NOT the win, as Swerve gets his boot on the bottom rope to break the count! Swerve catches Nick with some hard strikes and the Last Call…but THAT only gets a nearfall, much to the surprise of Swerve and Nana!

Swerve grabs the arm of Nick, driving it back in an attempt to separate the shoulder…and before the ref can do anything about it, Nick is driven down hard by a JML Driver giving Swerve the pin and the win!

Winner via pinfall: Swerve Strickland

Video Package: Lance Archer has been on a tear and he is coming back to AEW this Friday on Rampage!

In-Ring: Don Callis, Kenny Omega, Jon Moxley, Konosuke Takeshita, Pac, The Young Bucks & Hangman Page

Back at ringside, Don Callis comes to the ring to announce the fifth member of the Blackpool Combat Club’s squad heading into Blood & Guts next week. Don runs down The Elite and especially Kenny Omega, whose music hits as the Best Bout Machine makes his way to the ring to a big pop from the crowd…but Kenny is blindsided by the BCC out at ringside! Omega shoves past them as he goes after Don…but he’s caught from the back with a chairshot by PAC! He and the BCC send Omega into the ring, offering him over to Don for a cheap shot to the head! PAC gets the microphone, saying Kenny has no idea how long PAC has been waiting to come back and get his revenge…revealing he is the fifth member of the BCC!

BCC sets up a chair around Omega’s throat as PAC heads up top, and Mox asks if Omega has any last words for his Canadian friends before Blood & Guts…and Kenny says they still have a fifth member to announce as well, telling them to check the screen…

The lights come back on and Page and the Bucks rush in to even the odds!
