More on AEW Dynamite Viewership for July 5th

The July 5th episode of AEW Dynamite saw AEW gain a large increase in overall viewership and key demographic ratings and a slight increase in key demographic rankings.

AEW drew 855,000 viewers and a 0.29 key demographic rating on TBS. AEW’s key demographic ranking for that night was 1st place.

Dave Meltzer reported in this week’s Wrestling Observer Newsletter that the main reasons for AEW’s increases that week was due to that night being weaker than usual for general cable television viewership with the second placed ranked cable show, Sistas Series on BET, only generated a 0.18 rating. Another reason reportedly was due to the large gains from their older male key demographic viewership and older female key demographic viewership groups, which were up 28.1% and 53.2% respectively compared to the prior week’s show.

In terms of key demographic viewership, AEW had 380,000 viewers. AEW’s Males 18-34 had 89,000 viewers (even), Females 18-34 had 41,000 viewers (even), Males 35-49 had 178,000 viewers (up 28.1%), and Females 35-49 had 72,000 viewers (up 53.2%). Meltzer reported that the male/female viewership split was 267,000 male viewers (up 17.1%) and 113,000 female viewers (up 28.4%) for a split of 70.3% in favor of males.

In terms of the one million viewership milestone, none of AEW’s eight quarters drew one million or more viewers. AEW’s peak quarter hour viewership was at 906,000 viewers for their first quarter while their quarter low was at 804,000 viewers for their eighth quarter and overrun.

In terms of yearly comparisons, AEW was down 12.7% in overall viewership and down 20% in key demographic viewership. Meltzer reported that AEW’s 18-34 viewership was down 33% compared to the same week last year.

The July 12th episode of AEW Dynamite saw AEW suffer a small decline in overall viewership and a slight decline in key demographic rankings.

AEW drew 825,000 viewers and a 0.29 key demographic rating on TBS. AEW’s key demographic ranking for that night was 2nd place.

Dave Meltzer reported in this week’s Wrestling Observer Newsletter that the main reasons for AEW’s declines that week was due to stiff sports competition from the 2023 CONCACAF Gold Cup and the decline from their female key demographic viewership group, which was down 6.2% compared to last week’s show. Another reason reportedly was due to the large decline from their Over 50 viewership group with the exact percentage not stated by Meltzer. This reportedly offset the small gain from their male key demographic viewership group, which was up 4.5% compared to last week’s show.

In terms of head-to-head competition, the 2023 ESPYS drew 2,235,000 viewers on ABC, the 2023 CONCACAF Gold Cup game of United States vs. Panama drew 1,506,000 viewers on FS1 and 1,904,000 viewers on Univision, and Real Housewives of Orange County drew 782,000 viewers on BRAVO.

In terms of key demographic viewership, AEW had 385,000 viewers. AEW’s Males 18-34 had 118,000 viewers (up 34.1%), Females 18-34 had 40,000 viewers (down 2.4%), Males 35-49 had 163,000 viewers (down 8.4), and Females 35-49 had 66,000 viewers (down 8.3%). Meltzer reported that the male/female viewership split was 279,000 male viewers (up 4.5%) and 106,000 female viewers (down 6.2%) for a split of 72.5% in favor of males.

In terms of the one million viewership milestone, none of AEW’s eight quarters drew one million or more viewers. AEW’s peak quarter hour viewership was at 896,000 viewers for their first quarter while their quarter low was at 780,000 viewers for their third quarter.

The July 7th episode of AEW Rampage saw AEW suffer a large decline in overall viewership and a slight decline in key demographic ratings but gained a small increase in key demographic rankings. That week’s show was notable for being Rampage’s 100th episode.

AEW drew 368,000 viewers and a 0.12 key demographic rating on TBS. AEW’s key demographic ranking for that night was 5th place.

Dave Meltzer reported in this week’s Wrestling Observer Newsletter that the main reason for AEW’s declines that week was due to the large declines from their younger male key demographic and older male key demographic viewership groups, which were down 21.7% and 26.6% respectively compared to the prior week’s show. This reportedly offset the large gain from their older female key demographic viewership group, which was up 45.9% compared to the prior week’s show.

In terms of key demographic viewership, AEW had 157,000 viewers. AEW’s Males 18-34 had 18,000 viewers (down 21.7%), Females 18-34 had 17,000 viewers (equal), Males 35-49 had 69,000 viewers (down 26.6%), and Females 35-49 had 54,000 viewers (up 45.9%). Meltzer reported that the male/female viewership skew was 87,000 male viewers (down 34.5%) and 71,000 female viewers (up 31.5%) for a split of 55.4% in favor of males. Meltzer also reported that week’s Rampage and Collision did not rank in the youngest skewing sports shows for the week while that week’s Dynamite show was the eight youngest skewing sports show.

In terms of yearly comparisons, AEW was down 14% in overall viewership and down 16.9% in key demographic viewership. Meltzer reported that AEW’s 18-34 viewership was down 39.3% compared to the same week last year.

The July 8th episode of AEW Collision saw AEW gain a very large increase in overall viewership and a large increase in key demographic ratings and key demographic rankings.

AEW drew 580,000 viewers and a 0.21 key demographic rating on TBS. AEW’s key demographic ranking for that night was 5th place.

Dave Meltzer reported in this week’s Wrestling Observer Newsletter that the main reasons for AEW’s increases that week was due to the very strong rebound from their younger male key demographic viewership, which was up 490.9% compared to the prior week’s show. Another reason reportedly was due to the large gains from all of AEW’s other key demographic viewership groups compared to last week’s show. Meltzer reported that while last week’s show had a very low key demographic viewership of 172,000, it did rise by 50.6% to 259,000 viewers when factoring in DVR viewership. Meltzer reported that Collision is currently averaging around a 25% increase in key demographic viewership when factoring in DVR.

In terms of notable head-to-head competition, the 2023 CONCACAF Gold Cup game of Mexico vs. Costa Rica drew 608,000 viewers on TUDN, the UFC 290 prelims drew 1,155,000 viewers on ABC, the UFC 290 prelims drew 704,000 viewers on ESPN, and the Saturday Night Baseball game drew 2,201,000 viewers on FOX.

In terms of key demographic viewership, AEW had 279,000 viewers. AEW’s Males 18-34 had 65,000 viewers (up 490.9%), Females 18-34 had 41,000 viewers (up 31.7%), Males 35-49 had 125,000 viewers (up 17.6%), and Females 35-49 had 48,000 viewers (up 71.4%). Meltzer reported that the male/female viewership skew was 190,000 male viewers (up 62.3%) and 89,000 female viewers (up 58.9%) for a split of 68.1% in favor of males.
