WWE RAW Notes: Two New Matches Official for SummerSlam 2023, New Women’s Tag Champions

New Match Added to SummerSlam 2023, Updated Card

Monday’s WWE RAW show in Atlanta, Georgia featured two new matches officially added to the card of SummerSlam 2023, which takes place on August 5th at Ford Field in Detroit, Michigan.

The first new match was announced to be a singles match of Cody Rhodes vs. Brock Lesnar.

This match was setup following Rhodes bashing Lesnar and stated that it did not matter when Lesnar comes out since he was prepare to wait until the end of the show if needed for an answer to his match challenge. Following the end of Rhodes’ promo, Rhodes hugged his family at ringside only for Lesnar’s music to play. Rhodes waited for Lesnar to show up but Lesnar did not appear and the music stopped leading to Rhodes walking closer to the stage. Lesnar’s music played again which led to Rhodes being in a defensive position and then went to the back when Lesnar did not show up again. Right as Rhodes got to the back, a chair sound was heard leading to a chair flying out and Lesnar chucking Rhodes down the ramp. After an extended beatdown, Lesnar told Rhodes that he accepted his challenge for another match at SummerSlam.

The second new match announced is a singles match of Ronda Rousey vs. Shayna Baszler.

This match was setup following Baszler’s quick squash win over Nikki Cross. Rousey interrupted Baszler’s post-match celebration and gave a promo from a luxury box mocking Baszler for being just a knock-off version of herself. Baszler responded saying that she was the better wrestler in the ring and challenge her to a match. Rousey responded denying the match request which led to Baszler going into the crowd to confront Rousey. Before Baszler could proceed any further, Rousey said she would do Baszler a favor and granted her request for a match at next month’s SummerSlam 2023 event.

New WWE Women’s Tag Champions Crowned at Monday’s RAW Show

Monday’s RAW show in Atlanta also featured Chelsea Green & Sonya Deville defeating Liv Morgan & Raquel Rodriguez to be crowned the new WWE Women’s Tag Team Champions.

Prior to the start of this match, Morgan and Rodriguez were involved in a backstage interview segment discussing their upcoming Women’s Tag titles match and stated they would not back down from anyone. This led to Rhea Ripley interrupting and after some banter, Ripley headbutted Morgan and attacked Rodriguez’s leg. In a follow-up segment, Adam Pearce granted Rodriguez’s plea to compete in the match despite a WWE doctor saying that while she was technically medically cleared, he wanted the match called off so that she could undergo more tests.

The finish to this match involved Deville giving a chop block to Rodriguez’s injured leg on the outside to take her out of the match. Deville then gave a cheap shot to Morgan after Chelsea shoved her into the ropes. This led to Green hitting an ugly looking Unprettier to Morgan for the near fall. Morgan tried to fight off both Deville and Green but Green was able to hit another Unprettier and Deville followed with a running knee strike for the pinfall victory to become the new WWE Women’s Tag Team Champions.
