More on AEW Dynamite Viewership for October 10th

The October 10th episode of AEW Dynamite saw AEW suffer a very large decline in overall viewership and a slight decline in key demographic ratings. This week’s show was notable for being the Dynamite Title Tuesday special and Dynamite airing on a Tuesday date due to TBS’s commitments with the 2023 MLB Playoffs.

AEW drew 609,000 viewers and a 0.26 key demographic rating on TBS. AEW’s key demographic ranking for that night was 4th place.

Dave Meltzer reported in this week’s Wrestling Observer Newsletter that the main reason for AEW’s declines this week was due to a combination of very stiff competition from that night’s WWE NXT show and stiff competition from news programming coverage of the Israel-Hamas War and the 2023 MLB Playoffs. Another reason reportedly was due to the very large decline suffered from their Over 50 viewership group, which its percentage was not given. Another reason reportedly was due to the large decline from their younger key demographic viewership group, which was down 21.7% compared to last week’s show.

In terms of notable head-to-head competition, WWE NXT drew 921,000 viewers on USA Network, the 2023 MLB Playoffs Game 3 of Baltimore Orioles vs. Texas Rangers drew 4,139,000 viewers on FOX, the NHL game of Chicago Blackhawks vs. Boston Bruins drew 1,431,000 viewers on ESPN, the College Football game of Coastal Carolina vs. Appalachian State drew 499,000 viewers on ESPN2, BET Hip Hop Awards 2023 drew 657,000 viewers on BET, and My Big Fat Fabulous Lie drew 780,000 viewers on TLC.

In terms of key demographic viewership, AEW had 346,000 viewers. AEW’s Males 18-34 was 95,000 viewers, Females 18-34 was 42,000 viewers, Males 35-49 was 152,000 viewers, and Females 35-49 was 54,000 viewers. Meltzer reported that AEW’s male/female viewership split was 247,000 male viewers and 96,000 female viewers for a split of 71.1% in favor of males.

In terms of the one million viewership milestone, none of AEW’s eight quarters drew one million or more viewers. AEW’s peak quarter hour viewership was at 731,000 viewers for their first quarter while their quarter low was at 549,000 viewers for their fifth quarter.

In terms of head-to-head quarters with WWE, AEW won zero quarters for overall viewership and only one quarter for key demographic viewership, which was the third quarter.

In terms of yearly comparisons, AEW was down 22.9% in overall viewership and down 15.2% in key demographic viewership.

  • 1Q – 731,000 overall viewers and 365,000 key demo viewers (Christian Cage promo segment and the bulk of the TNT Championship #1 Contender match of Swerve Strickland vs. Bryan Danielson)
  • 2Q – 655,000 overall viewers and 375,000 key demo viewers (Ending of the Strickland vs. Danielson match, the Samoa Joe promo video segment, and the start of the Powerhouse Hobbs vs. Chris Jericho match)
  • 3Q – 673,000 overall viewers and 400,000 key demo viewers (Ending of the Jericho vs. Hobbs match, the Adam Cole, Roderick Strong, & The Kingdom video segment, and the bulk of the AEW International Championship match of Orange Cassidy vs. Rey Fenix (c))
  • 4Q – 589,000 overall viewers and 353,000 key demo viewers (Ending of the AEW International Championship match & post-match stuff, the Toni Storm backstage segment, the Wardlow vs. Matt Sydal match, the Chris Jericho, Daniel Garcia, & Matt Menard backstage segment, and the start of the Jay White vs. Hangman Adam Page match)
  • 5Q – 549,000 overall viewers and 333,000 key demo viewers (Bulk of the White vs. Page match and start of the post-match MJF promo segment)
  • 6Q – 557,000 overall viewers and 346,000 key demo viewers (MJF & Bullet Club Gold promo segment and the Toni Storm video segment)
  • 7Q – 556,000 overall viewers and 315,000 key demo viewers (AEW Women’s World Championship match of Hikaru Shida vs. Saraya (c) and the Don Callis & Konosuke Takeshita promo segment)
