As noted before, the November 10th WWE SmackDown show in Columbus, Ohio featured Santos Escobar attacking Rey Mysterio and splitting away from the LWO as a result. Escobar further cemented his split from the group at the following week’s SmackDown show after attacking both Cruz Del Toro and Joaquin Wilde after both refused to leave the LWO and be at his side.
Dave Meltzer reported in this week’s Wrestling Observer Newsletter that his sources stated that WWE officials original plans for the LWO’s split was for Del Toro and Wilde to stay with Escobar and feud with Mysterio, Carlito, and a mystery third person. Meltzer speculated that Dragon Lee likely would have been the mystery person on Mysterio’s side based on the current storyline that has been built up on WWE programming between Mysterio and Lee.
Meltzer reported that WWE officials currently have plans in place as of this week for Humberto Carrillo and Angel Garza to be paired up with Escobar instead. Meltzer also reported that there have been rumors of NXT talent Elektra Lopez being called up and joining Escobar’s side as a counter to Zelina Vega but this is something that his sources have yet to confirm.
