Carmelo Hayes Turns on Trick Williams at NXT Vengeance Day 2024

Sunday’s NXT Vengeance Day 2024 event also featured Carmelo Hayes turning on Trick Williams following Ilja Dragunov retaining his NXT Championship over Williams.

Throughout the match, Hayes was involved in two incidents that resulted in Williams either getting hurt or costing him the chance to win the NXT title. The first involved Hayes and Dragunov getting into a confrontation on the outside that almost turned into a brawl only for Dragunov to shove Hayes and Hayes accidentally chop blocking Williams’ knee from behind. The second involved Hayes getting on the apron leading to the referee trying to get Hayes to get down and had his back to the action in the ring. This led to Williams missing a kick meant for Dragunov that hit the referee sending him and Hayes to the outside. Williams then hit a Trick Knee to Dragunov and pinned Dragunov but there was no referee to count it and by the time a second referee came out to count, Dragunov was able to break the pin.

Following the match, Hayes consoled Williams over his loss and tried to give him a pep talk only to reveal his true intentions. Once Williams turned his back to Hayes to walk to the ropes to get out of the ring, Hayes gave an evil look to Williams and hit a chop block on him. Hayes then grabbed a chair and proceeded to hit Williams legs repeatedly before walking away but not after having some words for both Williams and the crowd.
