New Champions Crowned at AEW Double or Nothing 2024

Sunday’s AEW Double or Nothing 2024 event at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada featured two new champions crowned.

The first championship to change hands was Will Ospreay defeating Roderick Strong to become the new AEW International Champion.

This was Ospreay’s first championship victory of his AEW career.

The second championship to change hands was Mercedes Mone defeating Willow Nightingale to become the new TBS Champion. This match was notable for being Mone’s official in-ring debut match in AEW.

This was Mone’s first championship victory of her AEW career.

Juice Robinson Makes Surprise Return at Double or Nothing 2024

Sunday’s AEW Double or Nothing 2024 event also featured Juice Robinson making his surprise return from injury to AEW.

Near the end of the Unified AEW World Trios Championship match between Death Triangle and Bang Bang Gang, The Gunns distracted the referee leading to Robinson running out and attacked PAC causing Jay White to hit the Bladerunner to PAC for the pinfall victory to retain the titles.

This was Robinson’s first appearance in AEW since November of 2023 due to a back injury.

Gangrel Makes Surprise Appearance at Double or Nothing 2024

Sunday’s AEW Double or Nothing 2024 event also featured former WWE wrestler Gangrel making a surprise appearance.

Prior to the start of the TNT Championship Barbed Wire Steel Cage match, Adam Copeland rose up from the stage surrounded by fire in a Brood style entrance.

During the match, Malakai Black sent Adam Copeland through the cage. Black then went out of the cage as well but got hit with a spear in return by Copeland. This led to House of Black’s Buddy Matthews and Brody King coming out and first stood at Black’s side before walking towards Copeland’s side teasing them leaving the group. This turned out to just be a ruse after King laid out Copeland with a lariat. House of Black tossed Copeland back into the ring and wrapped barbed wire around his head but before they could do anything else, the lights went out and the turned red spooking House of Black. This led to King getting attacked in the face by something unseen, which was revealed to be Gangrel coming out from under the ring. Gangrel attacked King and Matthews but got laid out by Black in return. Copeland hit a spear to Black in return and followed it by wrapping barbed wire around Black’s head as he hooked in a Crossface for the referee stoppage victory.

Following the match, Gangrel celebrated with Copeland and helped him to the back.

Kris Statlander and Stokely Hathaway Turns on Willow Nightingale at Double or Nothing 2024

Sunday’s AEW Double or Nothing 2024 event also featured Kris Statlander and Stokely Hathaway turning on Willow Nightingale.

Near the end of the TBS Championship match between Mercedes Mone and Nightingale, Mone got into it with Statlander on the outside leading to Statlander getting on the apron and tried to confront Mone only to be stopped by the referee. This led to Hathaway also getting on the apron and started to argue with the referee as Statlander dropped down from the apron. This led to Mone being distracted long enough to be hit with a Babe With The Powerbomb by Nightingale who was unable to score the victory due to the referee being distracted for too long resulting in Mone being able to kick out of the near fall. After some more action, Mone lifted up Nightingale for the Mone Maker for the pinfall victory to become the new TBS Champion.

Following the match, Statlander went into the ring to comforted Nightingale over her loss while Hathaway berated Nightingale and blamed her for the loss. This led to Statlander shoving Hathaway to the ground and helped Nightingale out of the ring. As Statlander and Nightingale were making their way to the back, Statlander attacked Nightingale revealing she was faking being on her side and laughed with Hathaway over what they did.
