AEW’s television deal with Warner Bros Discovery is currently expected to expire at the end of this year while their exclusivity window for talks with WBD for a potential new media rights deal was set to expire at some point in July.
Fightful Select’s Sean Ross Sapp reported that his sources within Warner Bros Discovery stated that the exclusive negotiating window between AEW and WBD had expired this week. Sapp reported that it is currently not known if a new deal has been reached between the two sides but talks were ongoing over the past week.
In regards to Tony Khan’s planned meeting with WBD CEO David Zaslav during the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris, Sapp reported that both Khan and those spoken to within WBD confirmed that this meeting is currently set to take place during this weekend.
Those spoken to within WBD reportedly stated that there has long been an ongoing dialogue with AEW and the two sides speak weekly about synergy, co-promotion, and upcoming plans.
Sapp reported that last year a WBD source had stated that they thought they were “deep” into talks of making one aspect of a potential new deal work, which ended up being AEW Collision, and the possibility of some AEW content appearing on their MAX service, which has not happen as of yet.
