Backstage Update on Mariah May AEW Contract Status & WWE Interest

As noted before, “The Glamour” Mariah May’s contract with AEW is currently believed to potentially be expiring this summer. May has been absent from AEW since Revolution 2025 this past March. May is currently believed to be potentially leaving AEW for WWE once her contract expires.

Dave Meltzer reported in this week’s Wrestling Observer Newsletter that his sources stated that prior to this past March’s Revolution 2025 event, May had made it clear to AEW officials at the time that she was not signing a new deal. Meltzer reported that this was the reason for the AEW’s decision to blow-off her feud with “Timeless” Toni Storm for the AEW Women’s Championship at the event.

Meltzer speculated that this likely was the reason why Penelope Ford was paired up with Megan Bayne instead of May since it would have made more sense for May for Storm’s current storyline feud with Bayne. Meltzer reported that this likely was also the reason why May was not included in the field for this year’s Women’s Owen Hart Foundation Cup tournament as well.

In regards to WWE, Meltzer reported that those spoken to stated that there has been talk within WWE recently regarding May coming in with it being known by key WWE officials under the belief that she wants to join their company.

Meltzer reported that May is also like other wrestlers whose dream for their wrestling careers has always been to go to WWE and work for the company. Meltzer stated that he was surprised when she first signed with AEW after leaving Stardom but believes her AEW stardom was her way of having a ticket to be pushed as a star from day one in WWE for a potential career there.
