Backstage Update on Tiffany Stratton & Charlotte Flair Promo Segment Going Off Script on April 4th WWE SmackDown Show

As noted before, Charlotte Flair and current WWE Women’s Champion Tiffany Stratton were involved in an incident at this past Friday’s WWE SmackDown show in Chicago, Illinois. This incident revolved around their promo segment going very off script over Stratton bringing up Flair’s personal life issues and Flair responding back implying Ludwig Kaiser was cheating on Stratton.

Dave Meltzer reported in a special edition of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter for this Friday’s issue that those spoken to stated that this situation between Flair and Stratton had been brewing for some time and neither was in the right over what had happened on the show. Those spoken to reportedly also stated that Flair is taking most of the heat over the incident.

Meltzer reported that the current belief is that Stratton’s line about Flair being “0-3” for her marriages wasn’t the cause of their promo segment going off the rails and instead it was Stratton’s line about Flair being a “25-year-old wannabee volleyball player drinking in her father’s basement “that appears to have been the trigger. Meltzer reported that Flair was long out of volleyball by the time she was 25 and got into pro wrestling after being recruited by WWE and from an idea from her late brother Reid about it being something they would train for together.

Meltzer reported that had it been the “0-3” line, then the heat would have been more on Stratton for being the first to go off script but there was a situation earlier in the segment where Wade Barrett tried to get involved that did not appear to have been planned. Meltzer speculated that Barrett might have sensed that there were problems and the segment was already off script by that point.

One source spoken to close to Stratton reportedly stated that Flair went off script her and the lines from Stratton from her standpoint were in retaliation. Meltzer reported that Stratton rolling out of the ring like a heel was to avoid the situation from getting worse and as a defense mechanism. Meltzer reported that this would be consistent with Flair having more heat over the incident and one person very close to the situation stated that there was heat on both of them and neither was the “good guy.”
