Former WWE and TKO Executive Chairman Vince McMahon was recently rumored online to be interested in buying back WWE.
This rumor originated from comments made by former WWE personality Jonathan Coachman in a recent episode of his Behind The Turnbuckle podcast. Coachman had claimed that people had informed him that McMahon was considering buying back his former company from TKO and Endeavor.
Coachman stated:
“I’ve been quoted a lot from this show the last week, everywhere, because I have conversations. People trust me. People call me. I talk to them because I don’t treat this like the end-all be-all. And the one thing that I’ve yet to be wrong about — anything. And so now all of a sudden I’m getting on all these websites because I have educated views and I also have people that are tipping me off. Now, do I know 100% he’s going to buy [WWE]? I know that he wants to.”
Fightful Select reported that their sources denied Coachman’s claims of McMahon being interested in buying back WWE.
It was reported that there has been no indication that the rumor came from anywhere beyond Coachman himself.
It was also reported that a potential buyback of WWE by McMahon at this point is highly improbable due to WWE’s market value has soared since the purchase by Endeavor and merger with UFC to form TKO Group Holdings. McMahon reportedly no longer holds the leverage or resources necessary to potentially purchase a majority stake in WWE.
McMahon reportedly still maintains shares in TKO but no longer holds any real controlling stake in the company. Asset management company The Vanguard Group reportedly owns almost as much stock in TKO as McMahon currently does. Endeavor, Endeavor’s parent company Silver Lake, and Egon Durban reportedly collectively own over 60% in controlling shares of TKO.
