As noted before, former WWE employee Janel Grant filed a lawsuit in January of 2024 against former TKO Executive Chairman Vince McMahon accusing McMahon of committing sex trafficking and sexual abuse towards her during her time in the company. Besides McMahon, WWE and former WWE Head of Talent Relations John Laurinaitis were also named defendants in the lawsuit. Grant filed a new amended lawsuit this past February detailing new evidence and claims against McMahon, Laurinaitis, WWE, and others.
Post Wrestling and Wrestlenomics’ Brandon Thurston reported that a new filing was made before the U.S. District Court for the District of Connecticut on Wednesday revealed that Laurinaitis has been removed as a defendant in Grant’s lawsuit against him, McMahon and WWE.
Thurston reported that an official statement on behalf of Grant and Laurinaitis stated that Laurinaitis has agreed to provide Grant with evidence related to the case.
“John Laurinaitis has agreed to cooperate and provide evidence in Janel Grant’s lawsuit against Vince McMahon and WWE. His agreement to a confidential settlement is a pivotal next step toward holding McMahon and WWE accountable and bringing justice to Ms. Grant after years of sexual abuse and trafficking. Mr. Laurinaitis looks forward to moving on with his life. We cannot provide any additional details at this time.”
Laurinaitis’ dismissial reportedly was submitted by Grant’s attorneys “with prejudice” which means Grant has agreed to not revisit her claims against him in the future.
In an official statement to Post Wrestling, McMahon’s attorney Jessica Rosenberg stated that Laurinaitis’ dismissal as a defendant does not alter her clients claims of innocence and brought up past comments made by Laurinaitis that were in support of McMahon’s denials of the allegations made against him.
“Today’s dismissal of John Laurinaitis as a defendant doesn’t alter the facts of this case in any way. Vince McMahon never mistreated Janel Grant. No matter how many press releases her team issues, the truth remains unchanged. As Mr. Laurinaitis’s lawyer previously said: ‘Mr. Laurinaitis corroborates Mr. McMahon in publicly declaring that Ms. Grant’s allegations of sexual abuse and coercion in her Complaint are completely unfounded.’”
This is the second time that Laurinaitis has switched sides in Grant’s legal case against McMahon, following him claiming in February of 2024 that he was also a victim of McMahon only to support McMahon’s side in May of 2024.
