The Wrestling Observer’s Ethan Renner reported that WWE’s trademark for “Edge” for wrestling-related purposes was officially abandoned this past April.
Renner reported that records from the United States Patent and Trademark Office revealed that WWE was sent a notice this past January informing the company that they had three months to respond to questions regarding the trademark. Renner reported that WWE did not respond back in time and as a result, their trademark was considered abandoned on April 22th.
WWE reportedly filed a new application to the USPTO on Thursday, May 1st stating their intent to revive and maintain their trademark. This filing reportedly was accepted by the USPTO and has been assigned to an examiner.
While WWE’s trademark for “Edge” for wrestling-related purposes had been abandoned, Fightful’s Jeremy Lambert reported that a separate trademark for the same term remains active for merchandise-related purposes.
“Edge” was the ring name that Adam “Cope” Copeland used during his career in WWE.
