Backstage Update on Mariah May Signing with WWE, May Comments on Her WWE NXT Debut

As noted before, Tuesday’s WWE NXT show at the Performance Center featured former AEW talent “The Glamour” Mariah May making her surprise debut appearance in WWE.

Fightful Select reported that their sources stated that May had signed a multi-year contract with WWE.

In regards to her surprise debut appearance, it was reported that the specifics around her debut were kept quiet within WWE so that it would not leak. Those spoken to within WWE reportedly stated that a very small group of people knew “officially” beforehand that May was signed and that the plan has been for her to be on NXT for a while. It was reported that word of her involvement on the show was relayed to talent in the Gorilla position just before her segment took place.

It was also reported that May was heavily tipped to go to WWE for the last few months and she had been making moves preparing for a post-AEW career. AEW officials reportedly were interested in keeping her but it is currently not known what the offers looked like for her new deal. Those spoken to within AEW reportedly stated that they do not believe she had left the company on bad terms.

In regards to May’s AEW contract, it was reported that her contract had officially expired at the start of June along with several other talents within the company. AEW reportedly had removed her from their roster page to get ahead of the matter for the reason for her profile’s removal prior to her contract actually expiring.

In regards to May’s ring name in WWE, it was reported that while she was not mentioned by name on NXT, it is currently not known if there will be a change. Mariah May is believed to be her real name and she would be able to use it if both her and WWE decides to do so. If her name were to be changed, it would not be due to a similar case involving Ricky Starks when he debuted and changed his name to Ricky Saints. In Saints’ case, the name change was due to WWE believing their could be issues if he used the Starks name over it being assumed to not be his actual real name.

Following her debut appearance, May reflected on Twitter stating “honey i’m home @WWE@WWENXT
