As noted before, R-Truth departed from WWE earlier this month due to his contract not being renewed. Saturday’s WWE Money in the Bank 2025 event in Inglewood, California featured R-Truth making a surprise return appearance. R-Truth was revealed to have signed a new deal with WWE and stated that his departure was not a “work” despite comments made by WWE CCO Paul “Triple H” Levesque at the Money in the Bank post-show press conference.
Fightful Select’s Sean Ross Sapp reported that his sources stated that R-Truth’s original contract with WWE had not officially expired by the time he made his surprise appearance at the Money in the Bank event. Sapp reported that the exact expiration date for Truth’s original contract is currently not known but those spoken to within WWE confirmed that Truth’s contract was set to expire and his departure was not a work.
In regards to R-Truth’s new contract with WWE, Sapp reported that those spoken to confirmed that he had recently signed a new deal with the company.
Sapp reported that those spoken to confirmed that several promoters, reps, and wrestling companies had reached out to Truth for potential bookings but no announcements were ever confirmed. Sapp also reported that unless WWE allows him to work indie dates, those promotions will not get to book him.
Sapp also reported that Truth has ignored WWE’s approaches throughout the past week until President Nick Khan reached out personally to discuss a deal and both sides “meeting halfway” for it.
In regards to Truth’s surprise return, Sapp reported that WWE’s plans for Truth’s return were kept very close to the vest and only a select few people knew about it beforehand.
In regards to Levesque’s comments during the post-show press conference, Sapp reported that while everyone within WWE was excited when Truth made his surprise return, many were not happy with the comments Triple H made after the show. Those spoken to stated that Triple H’s comments about Truth’s departure and return was “all part of the show” ended up rubbing a lot of people the wrong way. Several talents spoken to stated that Truth’s departure was very real and Truth seemed both shocked and a bit disgusted by it. Those same talents spoken to reportedly stated that everyone was unhappy at the fact that was informed in a “very cold and impersonal way” from talent relations instead of a “top brass” informing him personally.
One talent spoken to stated that Truth would never lie to his friends about something so serious and if this was meant to be a work, he simply would not say anything and ask others to do the same to keep it a surprise. This same talent reportedly also stated that Levesque knew it was in very poor taste to try and lie or work the locker room about such a thing.
Another talent spoken to reportedly stated that the “We Want Truth” chants being prominent over the past week on WWE television was something that had annoyed Levesque since he does not like it when fans try and hijack his creative plans. This same talent reportedly stated that this was likely the reason for Levesque’s comments during the post-show press conference where he stated “just watch the show” for the questions about Truth.
Another talent spoken to reportedly stated that it is impossible for Levesque to try and control all of the conversations surrounding the company.
