As noted before, WWE is still planning to hold their Night of Champions 2025 event on Saturday, June 28th in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia despite the recent situation involving the United States’ bombing of several nuclear sites in Iran and Iran promising “everlasting consequences” in return.
The Associated Press reported that Iran retaliated on Monday with a missile attack on a U.S. military base in Qatar but no causalities were reported.
The BBC reported that both the United States and United Kingdom governments recently instructed their citizens in Qatar to shelter in place until further notice. Qatar reportedly also had temporarily closed their airspace in Monday to ensure the safety of both their citizens and visitors in response to Iran’s missile attack. This closure was stated to be in effect “until further notice.”
The Wrestling Observer’s Bryan Alvarez reported that many WWE employees who had flown in early for this Saturday’s event in Saudi Arabia currently are now stuck in Qatar as a result of the current situation in the region.
PWInsider’s Mike Johnson reported that his sources stated that several WWE employees have been in Saudi Arabia since the week of June 9th including production staff who have been arriving regularly since that time and work on the stage setup has been underway for at least a week. Johnson reported that those spoken to stated that five WWE employees are currently stuck in Qatar at the Dohar Airport. Those staff reportedly were waiting for a connecting flight to Saudi Arabia after they had landed in Qatar.
Fightful Select reported that their sources stated that talent have not been informed of any updates nor any changes for the plans for this weekend’s Night of Champions event. Those spoken to reportedly stated that they expect that WWE is figuring things out like everyone else is right now.
In regards to talent’s pay for Saudi events, it was reported that those spoken to stated that talent are no longer bonused for the Saudi shows due to those type of things are now currently baked into their contracts with the company. It was reported that there is no additional financial incentive for talents who travel to Saudi Arabia for WWE events in the country.
