As noted before, Adam Cole was pulled from this past Saturday’s AEW All In Texas event due to a concussion injury and vacated his TNT Championship. During the show, Cole gave an emotional speech to the crowd talking about how he is currently dealing with a health issue and while he would not say it was a retirement, he will be away for a long while.
Dave Meltzer reported in a recent episode of the Wrestling Observer Radio that his sources provided additional details regarding the timeline leading to Cole being pulled from All In Texas. Meltzer reported that those spoken to stated that Cole was still ready to go and expected to compete at All In Texas as of this past Friday. Meltzer speculated that Cole had not yet been diagnosed with a concussion at that point and it was not a “touch-and-go” situation following this past Thursday’s AEW Collision show. Meltzer reported that Cole’s health issue did not come up until the morning on the day of the All In Texas show.
Cole reportedly woke up on Saturday and felt something was wrong and informed AEW officials that he can not do the match at All In Texas and he needs to take time off. Meltzer reported that there was no debate between Cole and AEW officials over trying to push forward for the match and the call was made by Cole himself.
In regards to the backstage reaction over Cole’s health situation, Meltzer reported that AEW CEO Tony Khan was very “shaken up” after hearing from Cole.
Bryan Alvarez reported in a recent episode of the Wrestling Observer Live that his sources stated that Cole’s concussion situation was so serious that he was prepared to announce his retirement from wrestling at All In Texas.
Alvarez reported that those spoken to stated that cooler heads prevailed and Cole decided that he was not in the right headspace to make that decision at the time.
Alvarez also reported that Cole’s in-ring future is very much in doubt and he is expected to make an actual decision when he feels he is in the right headspace for it.
