As noted before, this past Friday’s AAA Alianzas show in Mexico City, Mexico featured El Mesias defeating Alberto El Patron in a singles match. This match featured the stipulation of it El Patron lost, then he must leave Lucha Libre AAA.
Fightful Select reported that their sources within WWE stated that there are no plans for El Patron to return to the company.
Those spoken to reportedly stated that they believe El Patron’s departure from AAA is legitimate and not a storyline.
In regards to recent claims made by El Patron about WWE being interested in him, One high-level WWE source spoken to stated that “If we wanted Alberto at all, much less in the Royal Rumble, he’d be here… [There is] never any difference or change to his status.”
It was reported that WWE deliberately distanced itself from El Patron, especially after announcing its acquisition of AAA. WWE reportedly also made sure in taking the AAA Mega Championship off of him. Those spoken to reportedly stated that this move may have drawn some backlash in Mexico but it was considered a “long-term benefit.”
