As noted before, TNA Wrestling is currently seeking a new media rights deal for around $10 million per year and there is the potential of Anthem selling off their sports division if TNA continues to not be profitable as a company.
Instinct Culture’s Denise Salcedo held a recent interview with TNA President Carlos Silva. One of the topics discussed included Silva’s thoughts about the current status of TNA’s talks for a potential new television deal and him being hopeful to get it done by this Fall.
“It’s going great, but it’s only going to be great when we dot the I’s and cross the T’s. You don’t really get any wins to talk about it, you don’t get any wins to say it’s exciting. Are there a lot of conversations going on? Yes. Are they going well? Yes. But I will tell you, like I tell my colleagues inside of TNA, it doesn’t matter until it’s done. So, we continue to sort of work through it. August is always a tough month in the media landscape to get deals done, there’s a lot of people travelling, a lot of vacations. We kind of try to keep moving the ball forward every week. And I think as we get through August and into the fall, we’ll get a TV deal done. And I put TV deal in quotes, too, because [in] today’s world, TV is not just TV. It’s everything we’ve got. It’s how we package it all up so we create the biggest audience both for our fans but also for potential sponsors as well as our investors. We’re working hard at it. I feel good about it, but I won’t sleep until it’s done.”
In a separate recent interview with PWInsider, Silva gave his thoughts about the rumors of TNA being in talks with both A&E and The CW for their new television deal.
“I can’t really say anything about the rumors, because they are just rumors. I do enjoy reading all the rumors. We’re talking to everybody. There have been a lot of great discussions over the last 60 days, sort of leading up to Slammiversary. Slammiversary did exactly what you wanted to do, which is to create buzz and make and continue to elevate TNA. Not just for the fans, but for these potential partners that we’re all talking to. It’s helped us, it’s helped move things along. Traditionally, August is a bit of a slow month in the media space. A lot of people are taking time off and getting kids back to school. We’ll continue to push in August and as we get into September and drive to Bound For Glory, hopefully we’ll be able to get a handshake together and if we need to dot the Is and cross the Ts as we get through the year, we’ll do that. That’s what we’re working on. It’s tough. Every single day it’s what I worry about and I’m going to keep doing it until we get that right deal that continues to expand the audience for TNA. Having said that, with everything we’re doing right now with AXS, YouTube, TNA+, the numbers are all up and we continue to grow. That’s just part of what you have to do to show potential partners the power and the potential of TNA Wrestling.”
